PRICES FOR SOCIALLY SIGNIFICANT FOOD PRODUCTS IN CONDITIONS OF EMERGENCY CHALLENGES

The subject of the research is economic processes and maintaining the price of social food products to ensure food security. The purpose of the study is to determine the reaction of prices in the food market in crisis, exploring measures to mitigate price growth and support vulnerable people. Methods applied dialectical and systematic generalization – to assess the evolution of the concept of social products; comparative, index – for comparison, evaluation of prices and price indices for food products in the regions of Ukraine and in the dynamics; forecast estimates – to build forecasts of food prices; analysis of statistical reporting. Research results. Define as socially significant food products that are regularly consumed by all segments of the population, provide the basic diet of the least protected segments and have a high social significance. In the context of extraordinary challenges – the pandemic and military aggression of the Russian Federation – first of all, the growth of prices for long-term storage products accelerated. In Ukraine, food security is not provided for one third of households. According to forecasts, in August to April 2022, prices for chicken and milk are expected to rise. Under the influence of the aggression of the Russian Federation, regional differences in food prices intensified. Prices rose rapidly in the most militarily unstable Kherson and Donetsk region, as well as in regions with a high concentration of migrants like as Lviv and Ternopil. To counteract price growth, ensure the availability of food products, it is necessary to establish uninterrupted logistics of raw material supply to processing enterprises and the work of processing enterprises; to improve the logistics of supply of finished products to the population. It is important to develop a methodology for identifying the people most in need of food support, to provide targeted support to vulnerable groups. The relocation of facilities from the risk zone, the supply of food to vulnerable regions, and the creation of a food aid map for foreign support will contribute to the uninterrupted supply of food. Scope of research results. Designed for specialists in the field of economic research of the food market and price analysis, researchers, teachers, graduate students and students of higher educational institutions. The results can be used in further research on the price situation in the food market, price containment mechanisms.
