ACTIVITIES OF ENTERPRISES OF THE FOOD INDUSTRY OF UKRAINE IN CRISIS, INTERMEDIATE AND WARTIME PERIODS

Abstract

Subject. The research is a set of theoretical, methodical and applied aspects of conducting business by enterprises of the food industry of Ukraine in conditions of permanent variability of the internal situation (agrarian crises and local recessions, intermediate periods, the war stage) and increased turbulence in the external environment. Purpose. To reveal the current state and generalize the peculiarities of conducting agrarian business by food industry enterprises in the conditions of permanent emergence of agrarian crises and local recessions and increased external turbulence, to substantiate recommendations of practical content aimed at ensuring their sustainable development in the post-war period. Methods. The basis of the conducted research was general scientific and special research methods, in particular: systematic and retrospective analysis – to establish the structural and dynamic features of the development of enterprises in the food industry in the pre-war period; formalization, analysis and synthesis – to identify and evaluate the variable dynamics of enterprises that produced and sold food products, against the background of a gradual decrease in its volumes after the local peak (2017); comparative analysis – when studying the activities of enterprises of various product areas; economic and statistical; tabular. Results. The causes and consequences of the real impact of agrarian crises on the functioning of the main branches of the food industry, as well as their activities in the inter-crisis period and the first year of the war, have been established. It was found that the reduction in the number of economic entities of the food complex took place at a much lower rate than in the national economy as a whole, and this ensured a more active preservation of the network of food enterprises, compared to their total contingent. The peculiarities of the functioning of food enterprises according to various models of stability in relation to agrarian crises are revealed: they are mainly correlated with the decline in production; especially they did not show dependence on agrarian crises, they are stable in relation to declines in production and crisis periods. The main conditions that ensured the sustainable development of the food industry, regardless of the period of their operation, were identified and established. Scope of results. The research results include theoretical principles and practical approaches to uncovering the peculiarities of the functioning and efficiency of food industry enterprises in crisis (macro-decline), inter-crisis and war periods. The identified trends will be used to revive the potential of the food industry in the process of liquidating the consequences of the occupation of part of the Ukrainian territory and intensifying the activities of enterprises using means and tools to support them.
