Subject of research. A set of theoretical, methodological and applied aspects of innovative activity in the food industry of the agricultural sector of Ukraine due to the deterioration of internal conditions and the external environment. Purpose. Summarize the results of innovative activities of food industry enterprises over the past decade and substantiate the directions and economic mechanism of its activation in the post-war period. Methods. The basis of the conducted research was general scientific and special methods, in particular: scientific logic and retrospective analysis – to establish the patterns of development of innovative activity, identify and evaluate systemic defects and current problems that inhibit its implementation by food industry enterprises; formalization, analysis and synthesis – to identify and evaluate trends in the dynamics of enterprises that introduced innovations and implemented innovative products, against the background of the scaling of the volume of its implementation and in combination with the trend of industrial products; comparative analysis – in the study of innovative activity in large companies and according to the chain approach, that is, in the presence of several actors who perform separate stages (scientific research and development of innovations, replication, implementation, implementation, release and implementation of innovative products). Results. The causes and consequences of the downward trend in innovative activity of food industry enterprises are revealed. The shortcomings and problems that inhibit the spread of innovative activity in the food sector of the industry are systematized. The mechanism and practical measures aimed at the activation of innovative activity in the post-war period are substantiated. Scope of research results. The results of the research include theoretical principles and practical approaches to the activation of innovative activities in the food sector of the agro-industrial complex in the conditions of a long-term downward trend and the destruction of part of its potential in the territories not controlled by Ukraine. Economic plans and practical measures will be used in reviving the potential of the food industry in the process of liquidating the consequences of russian aggression and activating innovative activities with the involvement of means and tools of the modern mechanism of its support.
