Abstract

Subject. The developed countries of the world interest in the use of alternative fuels and chemical products from renewable plant biomass is growing against the background of a decrease in crude oil production. Lignocellulosic biomass is the most available source of renewable raw materials with an estimated annual volume of 1010 million tons in the world. Purpose. Conduct a comparative assessment of the existing delignification methods of lignocellulosic raw materials with the determination of their advantages and disadvantages for the production of second generation bioethanol. Methods. An analytical review of the literature and a generalization of the obtained data on the most common methods of delignification of plant biomass were carried out. Results. Delignification is carried out by physical, chemical and biological methods. The comparative characteristics of currently existing methods of preliminary processing of lignin-cellulosic raw materials are given. Delignification of plant biomass is carried out in order to destroy the chemical bonds between the molecules of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin to release cellulose and its subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis to fermentable sugars. The most widespread method of pretreatment of agricultural waste so far is various variants of acid hydrolysis, the steam explosion method is considered a promising and environmentally friendly direction. To increase the efficiency of the process of delignification of plant raw materials, it is necessary to consider combining different methods of pretreatment. This will improve to the deep hydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass with the release of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin in a form available for further use. Scope of results. The results will be used to develop an effective scheme for pre-treatment of lignin-cellulosic raw materials with the aim of releasing cellulose, its subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis by cellulolytic enzymes to obtain second generation bioethanol.
