Abstract

Subject. This study analyzes key aspects of the state of food security in Ukraine that have been significantly impacted by the war. Considerable attention is given to changes in the agricultural sector due to the conflict and their effects on the country's food security. Purpose. The main goal is to assess the consequences of the war on Ukraine's food security and identify key directions for stabilizing and developing agro-processing faciliities to strengthen the food industry. Methods. The research was conducted based on a critical analysis of various aspects such as the decline in the population's purchasing power, an increase in the proportion of food expenses, a reduction in sowing areas, and an overall decrease in the number of enterprises in the food industry. The decline in of Ukraine's position in the Global Food Security Index was also considered. Results. The analysis revealed that the destruction of the institutional framework of the food industry led to the disintegration of agribusiness with a closed production cycle and an increase in the export orientation towards raw materials, which in turn causes GDP losses due to the shortfall of value-added products. The potential for increasing the profoundness of raw material processing and the necessity of expanding agro-processing capacities to supply the domestic market with quality products are highlighted. A new approach to ensuring food security is proposed, which includes modernizing the potential of the agricultural sector using modern technologies and innovations. Scope of results. The findings of this study can be utilized to develop comprehensive programs for the restoration of food production, the implementation of advanced technologies in the food and processing industries, as well as in agriculture. Taking these factors into account will ensure long-term food self-sufficiency and contribute to the scientific and technological progress of the country in challenging conditions and the post-war period, playing a key role in stabilizing the economic and social state.
