Subject. Industrial hemp seeds of different fractions, structural parameters of the sheller and technological modes of its operation. Purpose. To research the shelling process depending on the physical properties of hemp seeds and constructive and technological parameters of the sheller. Methods. Seed characteristics were determined according to DSTU 4138-2002. A developed centrifugal mechanism was used to shell the seeds. Variable parameters were: the gap between the working wheel and the

chopping board (15, 40 mm); frequency of impeller rotation (1500, 2000, 2500 min-1); seed fraction by size – large (>3.0 mm), medium (2.5-3.0 mm), small (<2.5 mm). Results. Each of the parameters effects the fractional composition of shelled seeds. The small fraction is the hardest while shelled. The most effective is the shelling of the large fraction of seeds. For all three size fractions, increasing the gap between the impeller and the tray from 15 to 40 mm increases the number of shelled seeds. Increasing of the frequency of rotation of the impeller has an ambiguous effect on the process. When the frequency of rotation of the impeller is increased from 1500 to 2000 min-1, an increase in the number of shelled seeds is observed. A further increase of the frequency of impeller rotational to 2500 min-1 reduces the number of shelled seeds. At this speed of rotation, the sheller performs the function of a grinder, which leads to the grinding of seeds. With a gap between the working wheel and the tray of 40 mm and a rotation frequency of the impeller rotational of 2000 min-1, the shelling mechanism has optimal processing parameters for three seed fractions. The best shelling results were obtained with a gap size of 40 mm and frequency of impeller rotational of 2000 min-1: for the small fraction of seeds, the number of shelling seeds was 16.47%, for medium – 19.67%, for large – 21.90%. Scope of results. The obtained data will be important for the further improvement of the design of the shelling mechanism, as well as for the development of recommendations for optimizing the technological process of industrial hemp seeds processing into shelled seeds.
