The subject of research is a set of theoretical and methodological formation and functioning of agricultural markets. The purpose of the study is to propose theoretical approaches to the functioning of the market of agricultural products on the basis of generalization of scientific research. Methods. The following methods were used in the research process: comparative analysis, abstract-logical, analysis and synthesis. Research results. The article is devoted to the theoretical foundations of the agricultural production market. Summarizing the definitions of the concept of market, we can conclude that the authors are based on the Western tradition of understanding the subject of economics, ignore the study of industrial or economic relations. In addition, these definitions focus on market trends towards price equalization, which is its main function. Based on the above provisions, we formulate the author's concept of public administration of the agricultural sector. In a narrow sense, the state management of the agricultural sector of the economy should be understood as a purposeful influence of executive bodies on the organization of economic activities of certain entities - agricultural producers, in a broad sense – a system of complex measures of economic, legal, organizational and social management of agricultural relations in economic, social and other spheres of society functioning. In our opinion, state support is an integral attribute of state regulation and presupposes the presence of a set of economic and administrative levers and instruments of stimulating influence on the most economically problematic agricultural production, economic entities and industries. It is aimed only at improving the ability to adapt to existing conditions of reproduction, including intersectoral exchange while maintaining the principles of equivalence. State regulation of agriculture is a set of priority methods of direct and indirect nature, carried out by public authorities and management at various levels, aimed at stabilizing and increasing of agricultural production, adaptation of agricultural producers to environmental challenges, the ultimate goal of which is food security, economic growth of the industry and sustainable development of the agricultural sphere. Scope of research results. The results of research in the development of the paradigm of the market of agricultural products in the context of globalization.
